DAY 1:
Departure from Cusco very early in the morning in our specialized overland vehicles. We will cross interesting Andean valleys and picturesque peasant communities. A mid-morning visit the Tombs Pre-Inca Ninamarca, known as "Chullpas" then to go to Paucartambo typical colonial town of great importance at that time and still retains its flavor. Continuing the journey to ascend the 3,850 Acjanacu m from here we will descend through the cloud forest, an area rich in endemic species as the spectacled bear and the cock of the rock, orchids, bromeliads, ferns, etc. We continue our journey by bus, crossing the high forest, arriving the town of Pilcopata *, then the port of Atalaya, located along the Alto Madre de Dios river, 700 m place from which to begin the descent down the river for about 25 minutes. We may observe the enormous diversity of species of birds, like herons, vultures, cormorants, etc. until we reach our "Erika" Private Reserve where we will walk through the interesting trail system that this transitional area between high and low jungle. DAY 2:
We get up early we take our boat heading to the parrot clay lick, a clay wall of the river where different species of parrots like the blue head, white eyed parakeets, among others, go every morning to extract and lick pieces clay. Upon completion of this activity, we will stop in Limonal, which present the necessary documents for the control of entry to the reserve. Undertake the current Manu trip upriver leaving all traces of civilization toward the heart of the reserve for about 4 hours to Cocha Salvador, where we will spend the next two nights in our safari camp Sajino which has double rooms fully entangled, screened dining room, sanitary facilities including showers, radio communications and photovoltaics.
During this journey you will see countless species of birds, alligators, river turtles and mammals often sunning on the beaches or feeding in the surrounding trees. This tour shows us the immensity of our jungle. After lunch we spent our time walking in search of wildlife in this pristine forest and talk about general ecology.
DAY 3:
In probably morning we wake howler monkey declaring his territory before others. Before breakfast we will walk morning because the temperature at this time makes it common to find animals for food. Cocha Salvador explore using the catamaran, and can see some wildlife species such as the Giant Otter (Pteronura brasiliensis) species in danger of extinction, important inhabitant that can be seen fishing, playing or swimming, just as the Black Cayman ( Melanosuchus niger), the Hoatzin (Ophisthocomus hoatzin), the Spider Monkey (Ateles paniscus), etc. and flora of the surrounding area; then we return to the camp.
DAY 4:
Cross a primary forest with greater diversity of species towards Cocha Otorongo, lagoon where a observation tower strategically located 15 meters from where you have the opportunity to appreciate the landscape of the surrounding primary forest and greater possibilities of seeing the resident family of giant otters, as well as great opportunities to observe wildlife including the giant otter. Back to Salvador we are able to use the catamaran Cocha Salvador and using our flashlights to observe the Black Cayman leaving in search of their prey. Overnight in our camp Sajino safari.
Day 5:
Today we again get up early, enjoy walking around Salvador Lake and then pack up and board our boat takes us downstream slowly down the Manu River headed continue to Boca Manu, a small town located at the confluence of the rivers Manu and Alto Madre de Dios. From this point, the river takes the name of Madre de Dios, becoming the hydrographic axis of the Department of Madre de Dios, in the evening, arrive in Boca Manu. Possibility of a short night walk. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 6:
Around mid morning will cross the river Alto Madre de Dios always observing the enormous diversity of birds. We spent the night in Erika Lodge or camping in an appropriate beach, last night in this wonderful Amazon jungle.
DAY 7:
Waking up very early, we continue plying the river to the port of Atalaya where we will arrive at dusk to then take
the bus back to Cusco arriving late this evening or early tomorrow morning.
